Basil Lemon Fizz
A delightful and refreshing cocktail that fuses the zesty flavors of lemon and aromatic basil with the effervescence of Champagne, or lemon-flavored seltzer water for a mocktail version.
Ingredients
- 1 batch Simple Syrup
- 3 (1-inch-long) strips of lemon peel
- 3 large fresh basil leaves
- 1 (750 ml) bottle of chilled Champagne or dry sparkling wine
- Garnish: basil leaves and lemon peel twists
Instructions
- Prepare a batch of Simple Syrup and remove from heat.
- Stir in lemon peel strips and large fresh basil leaves, then cover and steep for 30 minutes.
- Pour the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a bowl to discard solids.
- Cool the syrup to room temperature for about 1 hour.
- Pour the cooled syrup into a 2- to 3-qt. pitcher.
- Stir in the chilled Champagne or dry sparkling wine.
- Fill 6 stemless wineglasses with ice.
- Pour the cocktail evenly into glasses and garnish with basil leaves and lemon peel twists.
