Ingredients
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 scraped vanilla bean (or 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract)
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons bourbon
- 1/4 cup dark rum
- 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (cold)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, beat the egg yolk until it thickens and becomes pale yellow.
- Gradually add the sugar while continuing to beat, until the mixture forms a ribbon.
- Mix in the vanilla bean or extract.
- Slowly add the milk while continuing to mix, then add the bourbon, rum, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, beat the heavy cream until medium-soft peaks appear.
- Gently fold the whipped cream into the egg mixture.
- Transfer the mixture to a storage container and refrigerate for at least several hours or up to a month to allow the flavors to mellow.
- When ready to serve, stir the egg nog, pour into glasses, sprinkle with nutmeg, and enjoy.
