Ingredients
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 oz light rum (optional)
- Whipped cream, cinnamon, nutmeg (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk and vanilla until it simmers.
- In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the eggs, yolks, sugar, and salt until thick and frothy.
- Slowly pour the egg mixture into the saucepan with the milk, whisking constantly.
- Return the pan to heat and whisk constantly until the temperature reaches 165 degrees.
- Remove from heat and stir in the heavy cream. Strain the mixture if desired.
- If adding rum, stir it in now.
- Refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight before serving.
